Parents as Reading Teachers Nightly Encouraging Reading Success
Increase Parent Involvement
The PARTNERS Program is a research based preschool and kindergarten (2 – 6 year old) reading program designed to help parents learn how to effectively share a book with their child. PARTNERS strategies increase children’s receptive and expressive language. The program is designed to help parents encourage their child’s cognitive development, logical thinking, language development, emergent literacy, and social / emotional development based on national early learning standards and the Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum. All of the books included in the program are listed on the Top 100 Children’s Books of All Time by Children’s Books Guide.
Quick and Easy Parent Program
The PARTNERS Program teaches parents to use dialogic reading strategies with their child. Dialogic reading is a research-based, structured form of shared reading that is designed to encourage children’s oral language, vocabulary, and grammar skills. Dialogic reading shifts the traditional read aloud interaction from being adult-led to child-led. During dialogic reading, parents ask open-ended questions and expand upon their children’s comments and ideas. Parents encourage participation through providing feedback and adjusting their verbal interactions based on their child’s interests and ability. Dialogic reading techniques positively influence children’s language skills because they encourage parents to expand on children’s conversations, redirect conversation to encourage children’s use of particular types of language, and expect increasingly complex word choices from children as language develops. See the Samples tab to find out more! The Samples page has the full parent guide, full teacher guide, a sample parent / child interaction video, a brochure for families telling about the program, and of course, sample Parent Notes for Pre-K / Kindergarten children and toddlers.
